The West Los Angeles
VA Medical Center has made significant strides in the
area of ancillary services throughout the medical center.
On the general medicine wards, nurses place intravenous
canulas and insert nasogastric tubes and urinary catheters.
A phlebotomy service operates around the clock for routine
blood draws and cultures. For patients needing long term
intravenous access, a PICC line service is available throughout
the day. Additional ancillary services include ECG technicians,
speech therapy, occupational and physical therapy, and
patient escorts for transporting patients to and from
the medical wards.
