Nestled in the heart of Los Angeles, this unique 15-acre garden is operated by vets of the VA Hospital as part of the Horticulture Therapy Program. The Vets' Garden is open to the public and offers a beautiful and tranquil escape from the congestion and concrete of the city.

Mission & History
Established in 1986 as a work therapy program, the garden continues to run as a fully self-sufficient business, selling fresh-grown, pesticide-free produce to individual customers and several local restaurants. A wide variety of indoor/outdoor plants, herbs, and floral arrangements are also available, at very reasonable prices. In addition to serving the community, the income from the Vets' Garden provides salaries for participating veterans.

What's Growing On?

Programs and Projects

The Vets' Garden enables patients to reduce the need for psychiatric hospitalization while providing vocational training to learn new skills. The philosophy of the program is to provide a healing, positive environment in which to rehabilitate the veterans through actual "hands on" work experience. Horticulture therapy motivates patients to develop new interests and combat depression often associated with disability.

Additional Projects:

  • Collaborating with local schools
  • Offering a great hands-on garden setting for developmentally disabled adults
  • Hosting Garden Clubs and Special Events
  • Donating food to America's poor
  • Training college interns in related fields
