Julie Stranges, DAR representative
Marianne, I don't think I'll ever be able to thank you for all of the opportunities
which you have given to me to serve our Veterans. I'm loving every minute of
it too. We now have all the days covered for the Coffee Cart at Sepulveda.
And boy are the Veterans so happy. Some even wanted to give a donation, but
I told them and the only charge for the coffee is a smile. You should have
seen some of them. The committees which you recommended me to become a part
of are proving to be so very interesting and I'm learning so much. I hope it
will make me a better volunteer as well as a person who can serve our Vets
in a more complete and useful way. Thank you again so very much, Marianne,
for having the confidence in me and my ability to contribute to the committees
as well as the Veterans. You always make my day! See you soon, Julie

I can't say how rewarding my time at the VA was. I met so many just plain good
people who work where they are needed most, which is in the care of our country's
brave veterans. Volunteers play such a vital role in providing the basic healthcare
and services needed by our veterans. They do this with a dignity, respect and
compassion that can only come from the heart. Volunteering at the VA gave me
exactly what I needed.
Mr. Leon Aron, New Career (former CWT Worker)
I’ve been working with Voluntary Service for about a year now. It has
been an experience that has put me back in touch with working. I have worked
with people who can think on their feet, also so when things don’t go
as planned they improvise and make it work. I have learned how to think ahead,
check yourself and check again; when I do this, my job goes very smoothly.
I have learned how to interact with people. Not just people, but Veterans.
Also disabled Veterans. I have experienced having people walk up to me and
shake my hand or give me a hug and say “Thanks!” to me; that’s
a true reward. I realize that the focus of this department (Voluntary Service)
is to help the Vets, and it was an honor to be a part of it.
